When in Rome…
October 20, 2009Ever wonder what to do in a social situation? Do you fidget uncomfortably, glancing from side to side to see what others are doing? Life doesn’t come with instructions, so we learn to read cues. And sometimes that goes for online life too. Here’s our own VOO-version of, “When in Rome, do as the Romans.”
Background: We admit that our photobooks are a bit confusing. The idea is this: someone creates a photobook with a theme, e.g. Things That Make Me Happy, and a whole bunch of VOOzers contribute to the photobook, uploading photos they feel cater to the theme.
What happens if someone forgets to designate a theme for a photobook? That very situation came up recently, but what resulted was testament to the beauty of collective creativity. The creator of the photobook Testy only posted a photo (pictured here) without any instructions or details. But the next VOOzer to come along picked up on the beach background of the first photo and effectively made that into the photobook theme. Subsequent VOOzers followed suit. Sooner than you knew it, there was a complete photobook with beach-themed snapshots.
So sometimes it pays to just be one of the masses.
