Union Square + Yerba Buena Gardens
Thursday, October 8, 2009, 2:00pm-5:00pm
It was one of those lovely, late summer days in San Francisco: chilly in the shade, bright and beautiful in the sun. The marketing squad took to the streets in downtown SF and ended up in Union Square (where an art show was going on) and in Yerba Buena Gardens (where the lawn was replete with midday nappers). Here are two riffs people contributed to:

Park(ing) Day on Valencia Street + Dolores Park
Friday, September 18, 2009, 12:00 noon-6:00pm
In honor of the annual holiday Park(ing) Day, where people are encouraged to take over a parking spot and turn it into a makeshift park, we brought out the trusty ol’ Polaroid camera to capture the magic. We visited a number of pop-up parks on Valencia Street and asked people, “Why are parks important to you?” Check out their answers!
And since we were in the Mission, we headed over to our ever-favorite Dolores Park to do some collaborative writing and photo-taking. A diverse cast of characters wrote prose and poetry and took some killer Polaroid snapshots, all of which capture the spirit of a sunny day in the Mission!
Check out our photobook to see our top three favorite Park(ing) Day parks as well as the Polaroids taken by an eclectic mix of Mission peeps.
And you definitely don’t want to miss the day’s collaborative stories:

Side note: We got a lot of queries about our Polaroid camera and our access to film, so we encourage you to check out the Impossible Project. We love Polaroids so much, but they stopped producing cameras and film! Luckily, this organization acquired the old equipment and is on a quest to bring back integral film.
Dolores Park
Saturday, September 5, 2009, 1:30pm-5:30pm
Dolores Park is one of San Francisco’s go-to outdoor spaces. It’s located in the Mission District, which is the sunniest part of the city, hence the park’s popularity. On this lovely Saturday morning, we set up shop atop the hill, brought some food and beer, and walked around to lounging groups of friends and asked them to help write a story or draw part of a picture. Here’s the good stuff we got out of the afternoon:

Divisadero Corridor Art Walk at Bean Bag Cafe
Thursday, September 3, 2009, 6-11pm
We set up shop at Bean Bag Cafe with notepads, pens, drawing pads, and smiles. There was a hoppin’ crowd of people enjoying the warm night, drinking beer, laughing in the company of their friends. We went around asking folks to add a few lines to a collective story or to add a portion to a drawing. Want to see what cool stories, drawings, and photos came out of the night? Well, kids, here they are:
